What is the Ushahidi Platform?

Named for the Swahili word for "testimony", Ushahidi is an open source mobile tool developed at the time of the 2008 election violence in Kenya as a way to keep people informed of activity.. Ushahidi allows data to be shared/reported from as simple as SMS messaging, and it collects and displays geolocated data in real time. It has been used successfully in other parts of the world to report on natural disasters, health risks, and other actions of political unrest.
